As an internationally renowned DJ and producer Mauro Picotto has done it all. He's DJ'd all over the world, played at many of the UK festivals and has recently signed a deal to play for 6 hours 6 times this year at Gatecrasher. Mauro has produced both underground club tracks for his BXR label such as 'Baguette' and 'Underground' and chart topping tracks such as 'Lizard', 'Iguana', 'Komodo', & CRW's 'I Feel Love' and 'Lovin'.

**If you had to define your style of music how would you do so?
"I don't really define my music I play many styles but it's always music I like and that has energy."
**Where can we expect to see you play nowadays?
"I'm playing the same clubs but not so often."

**You play regularly at Gatecrasher now, how well's that going?
"Gatecrasher is going very well, they always sell out and I can experiment more because of the 6 hour sets. On Feb 2nd I'm playing exclusively my new productions and re-mixes."

**Why do you think you've been so successful in the UK?
"I'm not sure but I think it's because I play a different style than most
DJs."

**You seem to be quite selective about where you play in the UK, is that deliberate?
"Yes, last year I played 97 gigs in the UK and this way I discovered the best crowds in the best clubs. Some clubs prefer trance music so it's best that I don't play there, other clubs have more open minded crowds willing to more experimental with the music they hear, these are the best clubs."

**Where else in the world have you played recently?
"Japan, Hong Kong, Colombia, Malaysia, Croatia, USA and all over Europe. I
am very happy where I play and consider myself very fortunate."

**How do the dance scenes in other countries compare to the UK?
"The people and clubs are very good but the politics is complete bullshit, I can understandwhy the best DJs in the world prefer to play other countries. I guess the UK is a small market and everyone is fighting for their slice of the pie. South America and the U.S are the most enthusiastic crowds at the moment. I start a 10 date tour in February for the Carnival period which covers Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Mexico then Miami L.A and Vegas. I'm very excited."

**How popular is the dance scene in Italy?
"The Techno/ trance scene is smaller but house is still very popular."

**Are you as well known in Italy as you are in the UK?
"Yes I've been a DJ for 18 years and a producer in Italy for 10 so people know me."

**You play quite a lot of 6 hour sets, do you prefer this to playing 2 and
if so why?
"I prefer because I can play many different styles and experiment."

**How many times do you go to the toilet during his marathon 6 hour sets?
"Haha! At least once but sometimes twice."

**Who's currently signed to your BXR label?
"Too many to mention."

**Why's it called BXR?
"It's an abbreviation of Brescia Records."

**What future Mauro Picotto releases can we expect?
"March 4th is Pulsar 2002 remixes from myself and Tiesto also on the same date I release 'The Others'which is a retrospective album of my productions."

**Why the fascination with lizards?
"I don't know I just like them."

**Tell us something about yourself that not a lot of people will know?
"I think after all these interviews I have nothing new to tell."

**Who do you admire most in the dance scene and for what reasons?
"I admire anyone that beliefs in their music and has the balls to stand up and be counted."

**And finally, what does the future hold for Mauro Picotto?
"Health for me and my family."

-This year we'll be seeing less of Mauro in the UK, yet his popularity continues to grow and his 6 hour sets at Gatecrasher are becoming as legendary as Paul Van Dyk's. Production wise Mauro's tunes are as ever being hammered both on the radio and on the dance floors across Europe.
